Internet business world is full of competition. If you are in a high demand niche market, probably people who are in your niche are always looking at ways to put you out of business. So it has become your duty to protect yourself.
The question is of survival. To stay in business, you need to learn ways of outdoing your competitors so that their arrows don’t hit you (your business). Here are a few weapons you may use against your competitors.
Spying on your competition
I mean to say, keep an eye to see what they are doing. For example, if you are in the internet marketing niche and your main product is a software that creates ebook covers. Even before creating your product, you need to see all similar existing softwares and see their price ranges. If you have decided on selling your software for $90 and others are selling it for $60, you will have difficulty selling yours, unless your software is far better. Either you lower the price or ensure your software is better. What if you sell it for $50, where others are selling for $60. This is the way you need to think.
Prepare a comparison chart and also if required buy the competitor product and note all the features. Make sure your product is better in terms of features or better priced and let the customer know about these differences. There is no harm in doing this. This is what business is all about. After all this, your competitors are certainly not going to keep quiet, they will come up with something better. This is the reason, you always need to keep an eye on the competing products as well as notice what others are saying about your product.
Sales page contest
If you look at the sales pages of people selling products, all of them look the same and notice that they get totally involved with selling the product from the beginning. The focus of the sales page is solely on getting people to buy their product. Of course, you are going to sell your product too, but make sure not to make it the main focus.
You can actually do something totally different. Have some sort of a contest that would interest people and announce a free report or e-book for the winner. Make sure it is something people look forward to getting. Run the contest for a month or so and if the prize is going to be extremely attractive, people are surely going to be talking about it.
Meanwhile, get all those people to sign up for your list. You anyway need their email addresses to send the winner the prize. With this, you are not only selling your product but also building a list to sell them more products down the road.
Creating an ad directory
Creating an ad directory for customers is an ingenious idea of getting people to buy your book as well as promote it. Pre-advertise and let people know in forums and message boards that you are going to create an ad directory. Then create a page telling them how it works, listing the terms and conditions of how they can get a place in the directory.
To make sure this works, you need to make it a quality directory. You must have a condition that the ad will be placed only if it is for their own website and not for some affiliate site.
Take orders for the directory in advance. You can give them two options of either paying for the ad or selling a few of your books. This is a good idea of getting people to promote your product. If they are sure their ad is going to be seen by hundreds of people, many will be interested. Once you have enough people, promote the directory all over the internet.
Product review
The weird thing about this idea is getting your competition to review your product. Contact everyone that has a similar product and ask them to review your product and give a testimonial. They will wonder what is happening.
You are sending them your product and asking them for an honest review. You may also offer them a nice incentive. They will come back with a review and some may even tell you what they don’t like about it. Because you are their competition, they may even give negative remarks too. You will certainly get additional ideas from their remarks, and you can make changes or implement new ideas in your product so that it is one up on the competition. You have the right to keep changing your product.
Get your list to write your next book
This last tip fits the bill of how exactly to kill your competition. You start with sending an email to your list, asking them to let you know what they want to see in your next product. Of course, giving them an incentive is a must. Think and I am sure you will come up with something. Why not offer to have their link in your book. They would jump at this.
Did you know many big guys do this. They write emails to all big marketers asking them what they wish to see in their next book. They incorporate several of these ideas and the book is a grand success.
Beating the competition means always staying on top of your competition by coming up with innovative ideas and implementing strategies that they would not have thought of, and continually spying on the competition to be one up on them. Who said being in business is easy!
